Expertise:
Database Theory, Game Theory, Constraint Satisfaction Problems, Knowledge Representation and Reasoning

Research:
His research ranges over different fields, across Databases and Artificial Intelligence. In particular, he currently focuses on structural tractability of queries and of constraint satisfaction problems, on machine learning mainly applied in the context of business processes, and on the computational complexity of coalitional games.

The results of his research have been published on more than 100 high-level international journals and conferences, which are witness of their novelty, methodological rigor and scientific soundness. In particular, he has published on prestigious journals such as ACM Transaction on Database Systems, ACM Transaction on Computational Logics, Artificial Intelligence, Journal of Computer and System Sciences, Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research, and IEEE Transaction on Knowledge and Data Engineering. Moreover, he has published in the most selective forums in the area of databases PODS, ICDT, ICDE, SIGMOD, ER, e CIKM), process and data mining (ECML, SDM, e =BPM), artificial intelligence (IJCAI, AAAI, UAI, ed ECAI), logic programming (ICLP, LPAR, LPNMR, e PPDP), economics applications of computer science (EC e TARK), and algorithms (ICALP).

His works have received more than 1300 citations, with h-index=17 (Google Scholar, January 2012). For five consecutive months, his work on the complexity of solution concepts in coalitional games has been listed among the “Most Read Articles” of the Artificial Research journal (www.journals.elsevier.com/artificial-intelligence/most-read-articles/).

Awards and Honors:
In 2009, he has received the "Marco Somalvico Award", which is annually awarded by the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence to the young researcher that has mostly contributed to the field of Artificial Intelligence.

In 2008, his work on Nash equilibria received the prestigious "IJCAI-JAIR Best Paper Award", that is annually awarded to an outstanding paper published in the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research in the preceding five calendar years.
