WP8. Assessment and dissemination
Objectives
To (self)-assess project activities and disseminate relevant results. To show the operability of the INFOMIX prototype and to assess its capabilities for advanced information integration, which are compared to respective capabilities of other information integration systems. Furthermore, to disseminate the INFOMIX prototype and the underlying results to the R&D industry.

Description of work
TASK 1: Assessment. (Task Leader TUWIEN) In order to self-assess project activities, criteria of success will be established. Then actual progress of the project will be periodically verified with respect to expected results. As soon as it will be available, the INFOMIX prototype will be tested using a representative and coming from real life test-suite of data sources and user queries. The tests will comprise operability and include also scalability and performance measurement. Furthermore, its functionality and usability will be compared to other information integration systems. A further experimental comparison of system performances is conditional on availability and meaningful applicability of other systems on the test data. RODAN will ask its customers to elicit representative sets of data (with respect to amount, consistency, format, various technologies etc.) coming from different informative sources and also user queries related to the data. This will constitute the base for the standard software quality assurance practices with respect to usability, performance, stress etc. The task includes control of the technical progress of the INFOMIX project and control of the technical results and their compliance with the project work plan. This task includes the technical co-ordination and assistance of the task leader; initiatives to propose technical solutions and to adjust the technical orientation whenever necessary; control of technical work carried out in tasks and sub-tasks; proposal of technical modifications and re-allocation of resources according to the aims of the project as well as reporting about deviations from the technical plan; constant co-operation with administrative management.

TASK 2: Dissemination of project results. (Task Leader UNICAL) The project web server, which will be set-up, shall offer the following public services:
-A project repository, containing public deliverables and documents produced by or relevant to the project.
-A project newsletter.
All deliverables shall be presented in document form and they will constitute a valid representation of the outcome of the work in the project and provide tangible evidence of the achievements towards the objectives of the project. Project members will attend many International and European conferences, in order to disseminate INFOMIX results. A workshop will be organized, inviting companies representatives and potential INFOMIX users. The main research results achieved in the project will be presented, the INFOMIX system prototype will be demonstrated, and potential industrial applications of INFOMIX will be shown. To stimulate a higher participation, the workshop will possibly be organized in conjunction with an established top-conference
of interest for people in the database field. Obviously, the partners will also present the main project results at conferences and workshops in the area of databases and information systems, and disseminate them also through publications on scientific journals.

Deliverables
D8.1 - Self-assessment criteria (Report). Publication of the self-assessment criteria for each task involved within the project.
D8.2 - Self-assessment report for year 1 (Report). Status of the project at the end of year 1.
D8.3 - Self-assessment report for year 2 (Report). Status of the project at the end of year 2.
D8.4 - Self-assessment report for year 3 (Report). Status of the project at the end of year 3.
D8.5 - Test and comparison results (Report).
The setting and results of the INFOMIX prototype tests and their evaluation, in particular with respect to operability, performance and scalability, will be documented in a technical report, together with the results of the comparison to other systems.
D8.6 - INFOMIX workshop (Demonstration).
Main results and potential industrial applications of INFOMIX will be demonstrated to companies representatives and to potential INFOMIX users in a workshop organized specifically for this purpose.
Milestones and expected results
M6 - Acceptance of final INFOMIX project report.
The milestone represents the end of the project and the beginning of the exploitation effort of the INFOMIX
consortium. There are measurable, quantified statements about the effect of the INFOMIX system
and the novelty it brings into the way of supporting information integration.
