Born on April 4, 1943, Ljubljana, Slovenia, Italian citizen. Since January 1, 1976 Full Professor at Engineering Faculty, Trieste, since October 30, 2003 Full Professor of Probability at the University of Calabria. Graduated in '66, one year stipend from CNR and then, from '67 assistant and from '70 professore incaricato (kind of Associate Professor without tenure) till december 1975. In
years 1983-84 Director of the Institute for Applied Mathematics. Other positions held: Visiting Professor for a quarter at the Department of Mathematics, WWU, Bellingham, (WA); two semesters at Istituto Nazionale di Alta Matematica, one summer course for SMI in Perugia, two courses at SISSA in Trieste. I spent a sabbatical at Mathematics Institute, Erlangen (Germany) in 1982/3, and visited the same institute for four months in '84. For three monts I wisited UC Davis (CA). For shorter, but significant periods I have been at the university of Gainesville (FL), at MSRI, Berkeley (CA), in Paris, Marne-la-Vallee. I was several times forxtwo or three-weeks at WWW (Bellingham, WA). In the editorial board of Rend. Ist. Matem. Univ. Trieste and of Bollettino dell'Unione Matematica Italiana. President
of the Mathematical Committee of the Italian National Research Council
(CNR) since 1997 and Vice-President of the same Committee since 1994. About 50 invited one-hour talks at meetings and about 85 colloquium talks at places like Princeton (Institute), Oxford, Berkeley (MSRI), Seattle, Corvallis, Gainesville, New York (poly), Vienna (TU), Parigi, Londra, Reading, Monaco (TU and uni), Erlangen, Muenster, Wuerzburg, Salzburg, Praga, Varsaw, Wroclaw, Budapest, Szeged, Louvain la Neuve, etc, and most of the major italian universities. I have been invited sixteen times to meetings in Oberwolfach, starting in 1979. Organizer or coorganizer of 23 international meetings, in particular of eight Workshops on Measure Theory and Real Analysis in Grado, Gorizia and Mondello and of four meetings in Cortona(in '95, '99, '03 and '07), supported by INdAM. devoted to "Analytic aspects of convexity". The meetings in Cortona contributed to establishing an european network which got the finantial support for the international research project "Phenomena in high dimensions" within the VI Framework Program of the European Community Marie Curie Actions. The project began in 2004 and favoured the training and mobility of young researchers. Member of the scientific committee of the meeting of the OeMG held in Bolzano (september 2003) and of the joint meeting UMI-DMV held in Perugia in June 2007.
